SHEPARD FAIREY is an American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, activist, illustrator, and founder of OBEY Clothing, which emerged from the skateboarding scene. He first became known for his “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign while attending the Rhode Island School of Design. Today Shepard Fairy continues his propaganda style murals and is considered one of the most recognized street artists in the world.
This mural was initially painted in 2009 for the grand opening of the Wynwood Wall. It was then repainted by SHEPARD FAIREY in December of 2013 after Mr. Tony Goldman passed away. Mr. Goldman was a self made real estate mogul. He was a visionary who saw relationship between street art and property value. Goldman Properties which was founded by Mr. Goldman own the Wynwood Walls.
There is a huge homage to Mr. Goldman in the center of this mural. The subject in the center of the mural sporting the cowboy hat is him! See if you can spot MLK,
